I worked with a colleague to show how sketchy retailers were using images stolen from across the web to sell ultra-discounted, shoddy clothes to women on Facebook. The items were typically sent from halfway around the world and rarely arrived as described, if at all. We found that many of the brands were connected and linked to one of China’s richest men.

The January 2015 closure followed my scoop from November, when I reported that the company was planning to shutter most of its stores and transition into a wholesale brand. At the time, the company called my report "off base." Less than two months later, management called employees into an impromptu town hall meeting and told them the brand was shutting down. Most employees left that day.
